Conventional Braces
Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, and Southbay
The number of available orthodontic treatments continues to expand, and now includes options such as lingual braces (which are placed behind the teeth) and clear braces (which use translucent aligners that fit over the teeth). For many patients, however, conventional braces remain the most effective option for correcting bite problems and achieving beautifully aligned smiles.
Manhattan Beach orthodontist Dr. JD Miller can help determine the best treatment for you or your child. Please call Surfside Smiles Orthodontics at 310-947-1810 to schedule your complimentary personal consultation.
Brace Yourself
Modern conventional braces are much more comfortable and discreet than those of generations past.
While the bracket-and-wire system is still used, brackets today are smaller, lighter and contoured for comfort. Patients also have the option of metal, ceramic or plastic brackets.
With conventional braces, brackets are affixed to the fronts of your teeth and archwires that run through the brackets are used to direct the selective force necessary to progressively bring your teeth into proper alignment. For additional information, please see How Braces Work.
Treatable Conditions
Braces remain one of the most versatile orthodontic treatments and may be used to correct a spectrum of conditions that include:
- Crossbite
- Open bite
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Gapped teeth
- Misspaced teeth
Bite correction with traditional braces or another treatment method can benefit both the aesthetics of your smile as well as your oral health. Untreated bite problems can allow the continued shifting of teeth and allow spaces in which tooth decay or periodontal disease can take hold.
